01/31/2004. Roof lines and plot plan. Jay Madden designA roof structure is part of your building envelope. It's the covering on the uppermost part of the building or shelter which gives protection from animals and weather, notably rain or snow, but heat also, sunlight and wind. The term also denotes the framing or structure which supports that covering.[1]The characteristics of the roof are dependent upon the goal of the building it addresses, the available roofer materials and the neighborhood traditions of building and wider ideas of architectural design and practice and could also be governed by local or national legislation. In most countries a roof protects mainly against rain. A verandah might be roofed with material that helps to protect against sun light but admits the other elements. The roof of any garden conservatory protects plants from cold, wind, and rain, but admits light.Flatroofhomedesignkeralahomedesignarchitecturehouseplans.jpgShack made of date hand branches at Neot Semadar, IsraelA roofing may also provide additional living space, for example a roof covering garden. The elements in the look of a roof structure are:the materialthe constructionthe durabilityThe material of an roof may range from banana leaves, wheaten seagrass or straw to laminated a glass, copper (see: copper roof covering), aluminium sheeting and pre-cast cement. In lots of parts of the global world ceramic tiles have been the predominant roof covering materials for centuries, if not millennia. Other roofer materials include asphalt, coal tar pitch, EPDM silicone, Hypalon, reboundable foam, PVC, slate, Teflon textile, TPO, and timber shakes and shingles.July 2014 Kerala home design and floor plansThe construction of any roof is determined by its method of support and the way the underneath space is bridged and set up roof is pitched. The pitch is the angle of which the roof goes up from its most affordable to highest point. Most US home structures, except in very dry out locations, has roofs that are sloped, or pitched. Although modern structure elements such as drainpipes might take away the need for pitch, roofs are pitched for reasons of appearance and custom. So the pitch is dependent after stylistic factors partly, and partially regarding practicalities.Roof Designs: Terms, Types, and Pictures One Project CloserSome types of roof covering, for example thatch, need a steep pitch to become waterproof and durable. Other types of roofing, for example pantiles, are unstable over a steeply pitched roof but provide excellent weather protection at a comparatively low angle. In locations where there is little rain, an almost smooth roof with a slight run-off provides sufficient protection against an intermittent downpour. Drainpipes take away the dependence on a sloping roofing also.Shed Roof Design Shed roof plansA person that specializes in roof structure construction is named a roofer. The durability of the roof structure is a matter of matter because the rooftop is often the least accessible part of any building for purposes of repair and renewal, while its destruction or destruction can have serious results.01/31/2004. Roof lines and plot plan. Jay Madden designBecause the reason for a roof covering is to safeguard people and their property from climatic elements, the insulating properties of any roof covering are a thought in its structure and the choice of roofing materials. Some roof materials, those of natural fibrous material especially, such as thatch, have excellent insulating properties. For those that do not, extra insulation is installed under the exterior part often. In developed countries, nearly all dwellings have a ceiling installed under the structural members of the roof. The goal of a roof is to insulate against temperature and cold, noises, dirt and grime and frequently from the lice and droppings of birds who frequently choose roofs as nesting places.Flatroofhomedesignkeralahomedesignarchitecturehouseplans.jpgConcrete tiles can be used as insulation. When installed leaving a space between your tiles and the rooftop surface, it can reduce heat caused by the sun.Forms of insulation are felt or cheap sheeting, sometimes with a reflective surface, installed below the tiles or other material immediately; synthetic foam batting laid above the ceiling and recycled paper products and other such materials that may be inserted or sprayed into roof cavities. So called Cool roofs are becoming popular progressively, and sometimes are mandated by local codes. Cool roofs are defined as roofs with both high reflectivity and high thermal emittance.July 2014 Kerala home design and floor plansPoorly insulated and ventilated roof can suffer from problems including the formation of glaciers dams around the overhanging eaves in cold weather, causing water from melted snow on top parts of the roof structure to penetrate the roofing material. Ice dams happen when heat escapes through the uppermost area of the roof, and the snow at those items melts, refreezing as it drips across the shingles, and collecting in the form of ice at the lower points. This can result in structural harm from stress, like the damage of gutter and drainage systems.
