Poorly insulated and ventilated roofer can have problems with problems including the formation of ice dams throughout the overhanging eaves in cold weather, causing water from melted snow on top parts of the roof structure to penetrate the roofing material. Ice dams appear when warmth escapes through the uppermost area of the roof, and the snow at those things melts, refreezing as it drips over the shingles, and collecting in the form of ice at the lower points. This can cause structural destruction from stress, like the devastation of gutter and drainage systems.
